Makapala Water Customers Reminded to Continue
Conservation Efforts
AFFECTED AREAS: MAKAPALA AND NIULII; NORTH KOHALA, HAWAI‘I
The Department of Water Supply (DWS), County of Hawai‘i, reminds its Makapala customers that a Voluntary Water Conservation Notice for both residential and commercial accounts remains in effect until further notice.
The Voluntary Water Conservation Notice, in place since March 23, 2023, asks affected water customers to reduce water use by 10 percent to help the Department maintain an adequate water supply and pressure for customers’ use while it continues making system repairs.
Water conservation is necessary due to the failure of the water system’s only well. DWS is working to bring the well back online as quickly as possible and asks for customers’ assistance to use water wisely and not waste it.
DWS is hauling water to keep the water reservoir full and meet affected customers’ daily water needs. Water hauling will continue until the well is returned to service in early June. You will be notified when the Water Conservation Notice is cancelled, and normal water use may resume.
- Performing the following steps will help to conserve water:
- Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes
- Check faucets and pipes for leaks
- Do not let water run when washing hands, shaving, or brushing teeth
- Reduce showering times
