Essential Use Only South Point system
DEPARTMENT OF WATER SUPPLY – ESSENTIAL WATER USE ONLY FOR NĀ‘ĀLEHU, WAI’ŌHINU, DISCOVERY HARBOUR AND SOUTH POINT WATER SERVICE AREAS
The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Water Supply (DWS) is asking customers in the South Point service area to limit water use to essential needs only until further notice due to impacts from flooding associated with Hurricane Nolo.
Storm related conditions including power outages and possible damage to water system infrastructure are affecting DWS’s ability to provide water to the affected area.
ESSENTIAL WATER USE ONLY
Customers are asked to use water only for essential health and safety needs, including:
• Drinking
• Cooking and food preparation
• Necessary personal hygiene
• Necessary sanitation
• Other essential household or health needs
PLEASE TEMPORARILY AVOID NON-ESSENTIAL WATER USE
Until this notice is lifted, customers are asked to discontinue or postpone nonessential uses of water, including:
• Irrigation and lawn watering
• Washing vehicles
• Filling swimming pools or spas
• Pressure washing
• Other unnecessary or high-volume water use
Reducing water use will help preserve available water supplies and maintain adequate storage for essential needs while DWS works to stabilize the water system.
DWS RESPONSE
When conditions allow, DWS crews will be assessing the system for damages and connecting backup generators.
This Essential Water Use Only request will remain in effect until water system conditions improve. DWS will notify customers when normal water use may resume. Customers may experience low water pressure or intermittent water service while system conditions are being stabilized.
DWS appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding as crews work to maintain water service and address impacts to its infrastructure.
